About us
Founded in 2024 by Mark and Georgine, Galu Backpackers & Ecolodge emerged from their deep connection to Diani. Mark’s ties to the area date back to the 1990s when he would holiday at his family home in Diani, eventually making the move permanent in 2012. Georgine grew up in Nairobi and settled in Diani in 2015. Together with their two kids Tygo and Yuna, they live just a stone’s throw from the lodge.
Diani boasts a range of accommodations catering to various budgets, yet beachfront properties traditionally cater to those with deeper pockets—a tradition Galu Backpackers & Ecolodge aims to shift.
Situated on a breathtaking 4-acre beachfront property, Galu Backpackers & Ecolodge offers affordable, inclusive accommodation on Galu Beach, renowned as Diani’s most beautiful stretch of beach. Just outside of the busy part, yet only a 10-minute drive from the town center, our sanctuary is a only a few steps from the warm water of the Indian Ocean.
Our lodging options span from charming private bungalows and cozy rooms to comfortable dormitories and camping/overland facilities. The property boasts numerous lounge areas, a well-stocked beach bar offering an array of beverages, an awesome restaurant and a unique ‘private’ section of beach.
Sustainability is at the core of our ethos. We are dedicated to operating our business in the most sustainable manner possible. In partnership with Wakijani Eco-Consultants, we work diligently to implement sustainable practices throughout our operations.
Furthermore, we proudly support several local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that are committed to preserving and maintaining the pristine beauty of our coastline. By collaborating with these organizations, we contribute to the ongoing efforts to protect our natural environment and ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the splendor of our coastal paradise.
